Swagger City is excited to announce the upcoming release of Northern Towns' Good As Gold. Soon to be available as a 10" with a digital download, the record will comprise the band's well-received demo as well as an EP's worth of new material. Northern Towns identify their sound as "stylized by British mod-polish and shambolic skinhead anthems and baptized by the violence and high decibel destruction of punk and hardcore." While the usual Brit-Punk, Oi, and Skinhead-Rock labels serve as convenient shorthand when discussing Northern Towns' musical approach, they fail to capture the band's nuanced song-writing and lyrical depth. Northern Towns characterize their vision as "a fitting memoir, a futuristic glimpse into an uncharted past.” When bands draw from the past, critics too frequently dismiss their work as retro-worship, but a careful listen will quickly reveal how urgent and poignant Daniel Sant's (formerly of Over My Dead Body) lyrics are and that the soundtrack to his story-telling (provided by former members of Please Mr. Gravedigger, Swindle, and The Muslims) is informed by a composite of influences that transcends a given era or genre.
